Our Programs

Target Population

Harmony Development Center Programs serve children 11-17 years of age, from all racial and ethnic groups, who manifest one or more of the following risk factors:

  • School behavior and performance problems (e.g., poor attendance, academic failure, anti-social behaviors and suspensions at school).
  • Family problems (e.g., poor parental control and supervision, domestic violence, child-abuse or neglect, family members who have engaged in criminal activities or substance abuse).
  • Mental health or substance abuse problems (e.g., poor impulse control, low harm avoidance, susceptibility to peer pressure).
  • Pre-delinquent behaviors (a pattern of school suspensions, stealing, running away from home, gang membership or association).

Specific Services Provided

SUPER Teens Program

Services  youth between the edges 11 to 17   from all racial and ethnic groups, attending Broward County schools, who exhibit the following risk factors:

Emotional disorder that resulted in functional impairment which substantially impairs the child’s role or functioning in family, school or community activities, and their families.Individual and Family Counseling is conducted by HDC Master level trained staff.

Make It Right Project:

Restorative Justice based on Accountability, Competency development and public safety. Youth participation mandates activities such as apology letters, community service, restitution planning and payment.

Girls In Power Project:

Develops the tools and skills necessary to improve girls behavior. Provides girls with the knowledge and understanding of developing healthy relationships. Entrepreneurship, money management, life skills, goal development, healthy nutrition, self-esteem/body image, safety at home, on the road and  the Internet.

Youth In Action Program:

Services  youth  from all racial and ethnic groups, attending Pine Ridge Alternative Center, Lauderdale Lakes Middle and Boyd  Anderson high schools. Program provides year-round after school and summer programming for at-risk  youth that will: strengthen protective factors by helping  youth develop resiliency, positive outlook, healthy family dynamics, pro-social relationships with peers and adults, positive decision-making skills, strong community attachment, academic and future career success; this program reduces risk factors related to teen pregnancy, delinquency, substance abuse, family dysfunction, mental and physical health problems, negative peer associations, and school failure.
